Hey, I never thought I would be posting something like this ever. But, lol it comes, my recipe to a fantastic ( atleast I think so) Veg Shahi Biryani. I am from the lazy community of the world, and living with some stupid roomies ( just kidding ;) we are great fun ). But fall under the exclusive club of BACHELORS. The prices in Pune restaurants increased two fold within a span of three months, leaving we poor guys no way but to test our culinary skills.
Yesterday was a rainy day, I was seen in a vegetable market surrounded by aunties. They barged in and left me no space to get to the veggies. After long manoeuvre, I got some veggies. 100gms of chilli, 100 gms of Onion, 150gms Potatoes, some 100gms carrot and one more 100gms of beans, pudina and coriander. Then returned home, and searched for the peeler and knife. ( First I searched for some space in kitchen to put the electric cooker!!) After a search 15-20 min, me and my roomies could gather all the required utensils. (We cursed the kitchen, its badly maintained! ) Then chop them in regular shapes. Say each piece be of 2cms width. (Now don't take a ruler for this)
Now, start the electric cooker ( those with a luxury of gas stove does not come under the category LAZY Bachelors!! ) pour some oil into it. Then, put onions. Onions will make sshh sound, just stir them, until the sound goes down. ( I know people asking to wait till they turn brownish, but I dont think we(Lazy bachelors) can distinguish brown, we only come to know when they get black and tarred, so better stick with sound. Wat say??!! ) Then put some chillies. Beware take a good step back and put them, they just dance and have merry with onions in there. Wait until the music and dance show of Onion and chilli stops, put some ginger garlic paste ( Now, who so ever is thinking of a mixie, is not in the club. Buy one from general stores. I recommend Dabur) This will give some good smell out. And wait until roomies from the next room come and ask you what is cooking. Don't worry it will take only 2 minutes as such. Just give a cute smile as if you are chief chef of Taj and dump all the vegetables(except coriander) into the electric cooker.
Don't panic, there will be sudden silence. Nothing will hapeen. No music, no dance, it seems the energy of onion chilli are down. Just stir for sometime, stirring is too tiring right. Members in the club usually feel pain in their legs, and wish to listen to some music or do some channel surfing. This is the right time. Put some two good songs, close the lid and relax on sofa. When you return, just put shahi biryani masala (Everest :D ) and then stir along. Put some salt, two tea spoons. And leave it till the third song finishes. Then put water, hot water preferable ( 1:2 ratio, 1 glass of rice to 2 glasses of water) If you are normal humans, a glass or a cup used for drinking tea is enough for one. This recipe is for two. So put two glasses. or two and half. It would be sufficient.
Now, stir it for some time, close the lid, and you can go and relax in your sofa until you hear some music from kitchen. Now, the lid dances to the tunes of cooker :). Take the lid, the water is boiling. Put the rice ( Rice should be cleaned twice and should be kept under water from the start of the show, this make rice bit soft) in the cooker, stir it. Put two more spoons of biryani masala, Two to three spoons of salt. And stir again. Close the lid, do whatever you until, it goes to keep warm condition.
Garnish with some coriander leaves, and flaunt it before your roomies.
psst, this turned out really good, my roomie said he remembered his raja type days back to home. :D.
Declaration: This recipe is tested under extreme conditions, is passed and can be executed without any harm to individuals cooking and is eatable !!
